Have you seen this one before in your event logs?

“Content index on Search could not be initialized. The content index is corrupt.”
Event ID: 4127

Your easiest solution for fixing this is to:

  1. Open Central Admin
  2. Click The “Operations” Tab
  3. Click Services on Server
  4. Click the server that hosts Search
  5. Stop the search service (WSS and Office Search is this is a MOSS farm)
  6. Re-start the search service(s)
  7. Click on the Application Management tab
  8. Click on “Content Databases” under SharePoint Web Application Management
  9. For each content database, make sure you select an Index server

At this point your box should be back up and indexing. You might want to initiate a “Full Crawl” to repopulate the index database. Just make sure that you do this at a time that will not impact your users.
